As the sixth annual BPM Festival begins to unwind, Playa del Carmen is still partying like there’s no tomorrow. This 10 day long festival is a techno lover’s paradise, literally. Its turnout continues to amaze the techno community, but 2013 raised the bar even higher.
As a little BPM pre-game, Stefano Noferini and Alex Kenji warmed up the early birds at Coco Maya. The festival kicked off hard with some unreal day parties throughout Playa, featuring artists such as Ben Klock and My Favorite Robot. Meanwhile, Pleasurekraft turned a long day into an explosive evening at Kool Beach. When ‘Skeleton Key‘ dropped, the mood was set and immediately put chicks on stage to raise awareness to beats and bikinis.
Later in the evening you were able to catch the techno queen herself, Nicole Moudaber alongside Victor Calderone at La Santanera. The Viva Warriors party headlining Steve Lawler, Livio & Roby, and a few other special guests had a packed house all night long, with filthy beats that kept the dance floor full to capacity. Right next door at Blue Parrot, Glow, based in Washington DC, presented Nicky Romero with a guest appearance by Tiesto.
Throughout the week you could catch almost anyone in the techno community throw down an incredible set. Parties would end anywhere between 8 and 9:30AM, and then recommence at 10AM. Art Department, Luca Bacchetti, Josh Wink, and Pirupa were just a few of the many day party DJs to turn up the temperature during a very hot day.
Carl Cox had a full house of fans screaming for the king of “oh yes, oh yes”. Another huge night of Phase One was the Circo Loco party with Resident Advisor’s number one DJ Seth Troxler, along with Maceo Plex and New York’s own The Martinez Brothers. Circo Loco was packed until 8:30 in the morning; it was an ‘H 2 Da Izzo‘ kind of night. The legendary SCI+TEC party with Dubfire, Carlo Lio, Shaded, and The Junkies was another BPM fan favorite.
So, when do these people sleep? Well, how can you with all this amazing techno?
Even our friends Hawtin and Osuna from CNTRL Beyond EDM hosted a party to share a love for techno. Everyone in this tight community came together to party to a respectable sound we all know and love. The sun was shining, the drinks were flowing, and the music was dark. BPM is a festival like no other; the members of the techno community delivered a dose of techno that everyone deserves to experience. The festival will continue until tonight, January 13th, we hope everyone had an amazing time. If you were unable to attend BPM, you can check out BE-AT TV for some recorded live streams.
First Day premiered on Pete Tong’s “Essential Selection”
and is sure to be heard throughout his jam-packed Miami Winter Music Conference Tour.
