Pig&Dan and Gregor Tresher’s ‘Soulcatcher’ Transcends Reality

Returning to Truesoul for their debut album release are renowned techno titans, Pig&Dan and Gregor Tresher! ‘Soulcatcher’ is only the seventh album release from Truesoul in its entire 19-year history, marking the monumental collaboration as a special mix to savor. The label, which is often affectionately regarded as Drumcode’s little brother, is a space for artists to explore their crafts without boundaries; “where the finest in house and techno can explore the groovier and more melodic side to their musical personas.” So it’s no surprise to us that this work of art really takes flight in this untethered release.

Pig&Dan have an extensive discography that spans the musical spectrum; both artists first auspiciously crossing paths on a flight to Mallorca in 1999 when Dan was a resident DJ at the Ministry of Sound and Igor was deep in the world of underground raves as Tropic 39. Since then, they have remained one of the most reliable contributors to Beyer’s labels in recent years, ‘Soulcatcher’ marking their third release on Truesoul alone in 2021. Meanwhile Gregor Tresher is also an industry veteran, beginning his career as a Frankfurt DJ in the early 90’s and now spinning at the hottest venues worldwide; even having 2008’s best selling Techno track on Beatport: ‘A Thousand Nights.’ Together they are a force to be reckoned with, creating a stirring sound palette that takes listeners on a transcendent journey through the past, present, and future.

Make no mistake — the album is a masterpiece. It is uplifting; elevated by traditional threads woven into the musical tapestry, while remaining sophisticatedly contemporary and more importantly, it subverts genres and expectations. It’s not just techno, not quite trance, ambient or electronica, but a cohesive amalgamation of sounds across the dance music spectrum. There’s something sublime in the composition of the record that guides the listener on a transcendent auditory journey throughout. Additionally, ‘Soulcatcher’s’ melodies and grooves are smoother than butter; laced with silky synths, airy house, and innovative techno textures to lead us all into the dawn of a new day that is sorely needed.
