Pola & Bryson took their fate into their own hands when venturing into their producing careers after they met in 2012. They put out their first release in 2014 and then they took upon themselves to establish their own label, Soulvent Records. Taking their common loves for Drum and Bass legends such as Roni Size, Commix, High Contrast, Logistics and Dom & Roland, they dug a grassroots path to their seat at the table. Using their musical training in piano, trumpet, and percussion the two let these passions run deep within their discography and it shines brightly.
When 2016 arrived, the two released their debut album, This Time Last Year and it earned them two nominations for ‘Best Newcomer Producers’ and ‘Best New Label’. From there, nothing but success and expansion of what they can do with the genre came. A huge drum and bass roster label, Shogun Audio, signed the duo on and their melodic take on drum and bass and spread. With a million streams on the title track of their 2017 EP, Find Your Own Way, support quickly encircled them from programs like BBC Radio’s Friction and London Elektricity putting their music out on the airwaves.
Their latest EP, Pacific, is nothing short than beautiful. For those new to drum and bass, the genre can be intimidating and almost overwhelming to the point that its hard to know where to start. Pacific is the perfect introduction, as well as the rest of Pola & Bryson’s discography. The opening track, “Running in the Dark”, immediately drew us in. With an ethereal melody, angelic vocals from Ruth Royall and a breakbeat that punctures the standstill at the right moment, it’s impossible for it to not become an ear worm. The rest of the EP holds up to this momentum, the title track bookended the project with gentle touches of violin and otherworldly synth work.
