It’s no secret that electronic dance music is getting bigger, attracting the attention of more and more people everywhere, everyday. It’s no longer bound by ages, brands, or markets; just name it and chances are EDM is there. Be it mainstream or underground, we’re starting to hear a lot of our favorite sounds on the radio, during sporting events, in restaurants and more. That being said, it should come as no surprise that EDM mainstay Porter Robinson has appeared in a brand new Apple commercial.
Although you don’t see his face, his apparel and figure cannot be mistaken. Apple is one of the biggest companies in the world: not only have they created fantastic products over the years, but they’ve created an image and brand that is commonly associated with utmost class, technological greatness, and cultural relevance. To have a piece of our “scene” and culture included in this video is a testament to EDM’s growing acceptance into everyday life. Although it may seem insignificant to some, in my mind this is a huge step for the music we love, speaking volumes to what EDM has achieved in the mainstream and where we’re poised to head next.
