This past weekend, Porter Robinson brought his Nurture Tour to Los Angeles. After kicking things off with the second annual Second Sky festival in Oakland, CA just a couple weekends ago, Porter has officially started his massive 31-date tour, with the Los Angeles shows being the 5th and 6th stop.
After announcing that the 1st Los Angeles show sold out in record time, Porter announced a second show scheduled the very next day at the Los Angeles State Historic Park. We were lucky enough to catch the first show on Friday, October 1st.
The line-up featured James Ivy, Wavedash, Toro Y Moi, and Jai Wolf. Toro Y Moi played a very intimate DJ set that set the mood just right, mixing in the perfect amount of dance and house music, proving that he is a master selector of tracks. He ended his set by playing his feature with Flume, “The Difference”, which got the crowd hyped up for the headliners.
Jai Wolf performed a beautifully enticing set, which featured a perfect mix of originals and remixes, backed with the most insane visuals. He performed a live version of his debut album, “The Cure to Loneliness”. He was truly the perfect opener for Porter.
Then came the main event: Porter Robinson, who performed his sophomore album, “Nurture” in full. With snippets of “Worlds” sprinkled in the tracklist, Porter sang and performed every song live with a range of emotions. Fireworks burst into the air as Porter performed a special live version of “Language” and then again as he rushed back out and performed “Trying to Feel Alive” and “Get Your Wish” as an encore.
Looking around the festival, you could definitely feel the emotions from the crowd. On one side, you would see one group dancing and grooving with brand new friends. And on the other side, you would see friends embracing each other while screaming the lyrics in joyful sobs. It was definitely a beautiful sight to see and we’re excited to see what else Porter has up his sleeve for the remainder of this tour!
