Fans of different artists and bands sometimes have to be extremely patient for new music. Occasionally we get a collaboration or a remix to tide us over, but original music is what we crave. In 2014 Porter Robinson bestowed upon the EDMsphere Worlds a one of a kind album that took the listener on a journey. Each track flowed with a chemistry, unlike anything most of us have ever heard.
In 2016 Porter and Madeon gave us “Shelter” a song of friendship and comfort. To this day when “Shelter” comes on I get an uncomparable warm fuzzy feeling. Here we are in the final moments of 2017 and we get a unique view inside the brain of Porter.
Virtual Self purposefully not released under the Porter Robinson ego is a very different sound with tinges of Porter around the edges.
The heavy EP has a Dr.Jekyl and Mr.Hyde air about it. The dark Technic-Angel and an almost opposite bright white character known as Pathselector.
The Pathselector tracks are identified by a high bpm and have heavier sound where the Technic-Angel is bouncy and light. The sounds are reminiscent of the days of Dance Dance Revolution, the tracks have this intensity that begs to be grooved to.
Our favorite track, which happens to be the first single “Eon Break” makes your heart race. The familiar sound that changes completely with each listen. The new EP keeps you on your toes and begs the question, What other stories does the young American DJ have for us?
