This past weekend, Goldenvoice premiered a brand new festival in San Francisco. Taking place at Pier 80, an industrial shipping site in San Francisco Bay, Portola’s inaugural festival took place on Saturday and Sunday. The festival had a very impressive EDM lineup which featured headliners Flume and The Chemical Brothers, and other huge names like Peggy Gou, Channel Tres, Kaytranada, Fatboy Slim, James Blake, Lane 8, Duke Dumont, Slow Thai and so much more. It was arguably the best electronic lineup we’ve seen from a festival this year! With around 30,000 attendees per day, music lovers gathered to dance and enjoy music under sunny skies and clear weather.
Day 1 featured one of today’s most highly praised producers, Fred Again.., who performed a semi-early set in the Warehouse Stage. The British singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist performed hits from his two full-length albums, Actual Life and Actual Life 2, as the crowd sang along and danced nonstop. He also sprinkled in some snippets from his highly anticipated album, Actual Life 3, which is scheduled to release on October 28, 2022.
Day 1 also featured a crowd favorite set by Kaytranada, who had the crowd singing along to each of his amazing remixes at the Pier Stage, an underground disco set by Jamie XX, who revived the 90’s retro techno scene in the Warehouse Stage, and a one of a kind, time-traveling set by Fatboy Slim at the Crane Stage.
As hectic as day 1 was, day 2 definitely seem a bit more relaxed in terms of lines, security, and just all around vibes. Day 2 featured live performances from L’Imperatrice, Yaeji, SG Lewis, Toro Y Moi, and James Blake on the Pier Stage, while artists like Channel Tres and Duke Dumont performed live in the Warehouse Stage. Peggy Gou absolutely slayed in the Crane Tent, just before Four Tet & Floating Points performed an insane b2b set, which closed out the whole festival!
Overall, we very much enjoyed our weekend at Portola! The whole weekend was filled with amazing music, beautiful vibes, and tons of nonstop dancing. We’re excited to see another successful festival come from Goldenvoice, and we hope that Portola comes back every year with the greatest line-up!
