It’s been a while since we have done Powerful Picks, but as MMW and Ultra pass, and festival season settles in, the series will continue to be around weekly! Per usual, lots of recent sounds from around the dance music world are presented here, dive into some powerful diversity ranging from bass to progressive house and more. Our chill playlist series Unwind The Mind will also follow this playlist this week!
Adventure Club – Wait (Inukshuk Remix)
There is definitely value in picking up old classics and remixing them in a 2016 frame. That’s what Inukshuk has done, adding a fresh melody to a song we all love and helped Adventure Club explode onto the scene.
Cash Cash – Aftershock (Justin Caruso Remix)
I’m a sucker for electro-pop and Cash Cash, Justin Caruso hits the bulls-eye on this one for many reasons. Justin Caruso has received support from big names and also continues to remix legends in the game. Keep him on your radar this year.
G-Buck & Flexatelli – TAXE$ (feat. Danny Brown)
Philly based G-Buck and anonymous producer Flexitelli join forces to push boundaries in electronic trap. The unique synths and fast beat tempo match perfectly with Danny Brown’s history of mixing high pitch vocals over hard electronic sounds and incorporating his long history with hip-hop. This track is sure to induce plenty of head banging, you’ve been warned.
Le Shuuk – Evil (Original Mix)[Kannibalen Records]
My favorite tracks have strong themes to them, Le Shuuk’s “Evil” definitely does – a theme that speaks for itself 100%. This massive bass tune won’t just send a shiver down your back, but is certainly unlike anything you’ve heard. It captures many unique bass elements currently popular, while innovating with a unique emotion within, and is club friendly, sick!
Dropout – Hollywood Horror
Dropout is like the Galantis of what they do. This balance of dramatic ballad/anthem tracks are paired with indie-pop vibes to make one hell out an experience: Dropout. On top of this, the song has a story: “This song is about the people who sacrifice more than hard work and time to get to that level of wealth. We’re talking about the people who sacrifice their integrity and morals to get there. It’s really about someone who becomes a monster because of the city.” Dropout ilu.
Pegboard Nerds & Grabbitz – All Alone
Pegboard Nerds, Grabbitz, Monstercat, a win-win in my book. Monstercat continues to amazing month after month as they constantly evolve and curate their brand with well-produced artists who are climbing to super star status. “All Alone” is an original bass track through and through – a brilliant balance of pop, bass, guitar work and melody. Pegboards are embarking on a tour as well, check out their Facebook for more info.
Tiësto & Bobby Puma – Making Me Dizzy [OUT NOW]
One reason I dig this tune is it truly shows how DJs are adapting, steering away from the big-room, raw synth sounds and are fucking hard with a wide spectrum of sounds all within a house tempo. Tiësto & Bobby Puma kill it here, this is one tune we will all be hearing this festival season – the Latin feel is an amazing bonus to the emotion of the track as well.
Bro Safari – Snap
This is like a slightly more chill, darker, less poppy side of Bro Safari. Toward the very end, I thought I was listening to Seven Lions for a moment! This track is 100% gold, “Snap” proved Bro Safari doesn’t stick to one sound and knows how to stay relevant, can’t wait for more.
