This week’s Powerful Picks lie on all ends of the spectrum. There are songs that combine melody with heaviness, and there are tunes that are more of an intense slap in the face from beginning to end. But as long as you enjoy getting dirty you will enjoy this list, so prepare yourself for this week’s Powerful Picks!
Unified Highway – My Only (Liquid Stranger Remix)
Both Liquid Stranger and Dirt Monkey recently released their remixes for the new Amp Live and Eric Rachmany project. In his typical fashion, Liquid Stranger’s remix is revolves around very rich, filled out and melodic buildups, and his unique style of grimy, metallic bass. At six minutes the song is on the longer side, but due to its constant evolution it continues to stay fresh from beginning to end.
Marshmello – Alone (Streex Remix)
Setting themselves apart from last week’s Hare5 remix, Steex flawlessly combines attribute of pop-punk with the euphoric vibe and catchy vocal-line of Marshmello’s original track. The group recorded fresh vocals and instrumentation for the tune, seamlessly blending them with trap influenced electronic elements to create a bonafide summer classic.
Extra Terra – Game Over
Capturing the melancholy, yet motivating feeling of losing your favorite game, Extra Terra’s newest bass house banger hits with an intensity that will motivate listeners come back stronger than ever. Though the song rapidly alternates between a variety of sounds and styles, it has a sense of consistency and cohesiveness, as well as a progression that will leave you begging for more when it finally is game over.
Ryos feat. KARRA – Where We Are (Radio Edit)
This song has been unignorable this week, so many are sharing it – and for good reason. “Where We Are (Radio Edit)” is an actually strong electro-house song with a not-so-generic drop. The energy of the track fills you so naturally as the track progresses over time. Ryos is going places.
Levi & Suiss Vs. AvAlanche Vs. BLVCKPRINT – Exodus
“Exodus” definitely focuses on the eastern vibes more, blending exotic sound effects with traditional big-room elements. The high-pitched vocals sprinkled throughout always comes in at the right time. Blasterjaxx, Bassjackers, Tommy Trash, Yves V and many more have supported this tune, our guess is you will too.
!TYRO x Helicopter Showdown – Space Gang
As with so many of the best dubstep songs, this new !TYRO and Helicopter Showdown collaboration heavily samples from old science fiction media, making it a fun and highly cinematic track. The music itself is huge and layered, with a buildup centered around intense brass stabs, and a drop seeping with growl basses filled with ear-gasmic movement.
Audio – Bricktop
Unsettling atmospheres meet catchy guitar lines and distorted bass in the newest track from DnB legend Audio. With the clarity and punchyness that can only be achieved by being in the game as long as he has, Audio once again proves that there is merit to keeping your songs restricted and minimalistic.
Tremorr – Apocalypse
Jesus Died For Dubstep has always had some of the heaviest releases in the genre, but this one celebrating 3k followers is particularly monstrous. Creepy vocals and menacing guitar set the stage for a drop that explicitly paints an image of destruction in your mind. The dance between basses and the heavy percussion is intense, but it always leaves room for the main sound, one that is reminiscent of a kaiju scream, to take center stage.
