Dirt Monkey – Work It (Feat. Clinton Sly)
The first single from Dirt Monkey’s upcoming album, due august 30th, is the newest anthem in the evolution of his sound, and yet another example of the badass energy of Clinton Sly. Drawing influences from trap, reggae, middle eastern music, and dubstep, the song is a hard hitting tune that is so sporadic that the only thing the listener can do is to give in and let themselves move in whatever way it inspires.
Jameston Thieves – Hypnotic
Every label should have different sides, happy songs, sad songs, intense songs – whatever fits given the mission of the label. Uprise Music’s release of Jameston Thieves’ newest track “Hypnotize” has a long intro that gives you a tingle a soft dance music song does, but actually pulls a bit of a 180 and hits with an abstract, yet on-beat, drop that completes the package. An Uprise release is just what James Thieves needed right now, the act is climbing.
Unlike Pluto – Found You (feat. Michelle Buzz)
It’s been a joy to see the rise of Unlike Pluto, I discovered him via his “Revolution” remix, originally produced by Diplo. Unlike Pluto creates a journey with his music, his previous 2 originals being “Waiting For You” and “Searching For You”, it appears “Found You (feat. Michelle Buzz)” is the finale in this trilogy. It’s hard to put Unlike Pluto’s bass sound into a word, it’s such eclectic blend of trending melody and percussion arrangement, it just feels right.
TITUS – Wrong Ones (Prod. Myles William)
When I think of TITUS, I think of a new league of party-starters that are currently hot right now. Kandy, Wuki, SAYMYNAME, all have a infectious high-intensity about them that hits the spot. This one is double so, due to the fact that Myles William and TITUS teamed up on this one, a match made in heaven. “Wrong Ones” goes off and the hip-hop stacked fits just right. TITUS has undoubtedly established himself, the world will watch as he continues to climb throughout the coming months.
Seven Lions- Coming Home (Kap Slap Remix)
I feel like “expect the unexpected” has been a key anthem in 2015 / 2016 dance scene. A dance music artist may have a modern 2016 electronic cover of an eighties song, a trap original, and a sentimental soft song all on the same SoundCloud profile. 3 years ago artists always went for pigeon hole positioning via focusing on branding as one genre. This is far from the case now and Kap Slap is a great example of how to properly diversify to compete. Kap Slap has really improved his branding to a point where you can advocate for it – the dude and his music is simply easy to love and “Coming Home (Kap Slap Remix)” was icing on the cake when it comes to the quality you can expect from the new New England native.
Triarchy – Why You Love Me
With repetitious, uplifting melody starting off the tune, “Why You Love Me” is a ultra-poppy hearth-throbber that gets better with every passing moment. Triarchy keep great progressive trance alive with their latest original. Triarchy has been getting blog love from all around the blogosphere, this makes another one. Avicii, The Chainsmokers, Steve Aoki, and Swedish House Mafia have supported this act, so I wouldn’t take your ears off this too soon.
KANDY – Fudge It (Original Mix)
I’ve been really getting into Kandy recently, I feel like he’s on the outer extreme of the current trends with bass music, but slowly his sound and the trend are evolving into one in the same over time. Kandy’s “Fudge It (Original Mix)” comes on the heals of revealing a new collective and with a new partnership with a tech company called Metapop. “Fudge It (Original Mix)” gets straight to it and goes off. Don’t miss this one!
Dillon Francis & NGHTMRE – Need You (A Boy & A Girl Remix)
Holy damn, what did I just hear. “Need You (A Boy & A Girl Remix)” is pushing heavy bass to an even heavier direction. Sort of like a mix between Charlie Darker, Kill The Noise, and a splash of fucking awesomeness. This boy / girl duo from LA have put out one of my favorites of the week. “Need You (A Boy & A Girl Remix)” are one of my favorite news act on this week’s Powerful Picks by far.
Devault – Nothing New
One of the top dance music channels / labels Trap Nation has released Devault’s newest track “Nothing New”. From the get-go you can hear why the label picked it up. A piercing but infectious, slurring lead synth sound dominates the track while a symphony of addicting electronic music is built around this. Already at 50K, you know this one will be big.
INF1N1TE & Subject 31 – Turn It Up
While “Turn It Up” keeps its roots in the heavy dubstep stylings the two producers are known for, it is much more focused on euphoric and melodic vibes. unlikThe drop, while energetic and frantic does not feel overly menacing, and is even amplified in the 2nd drop, which turns into a breakbeat tune, forcing the listener to bob their head uncontrollably.
Pasdat – Diamonds
“Diamonds” is a tune for all the G’s out there hustling hard, while still having a good time. The tune explores the sounds of mainstream bass house, while constantly keeping it interesting by never repeating a section. That mentality carries into the second drop which is completely different from the first, making it more bouncy and fun.
NuKid – Ho Train
This minimalist tune is a prime example of how less is more. There’s no crazy sound design or ultra-complex drum patterns here, just a simplistic, phat bass and the occasional synth to create atmosphere. The way the tune jumps between a breakbeat and a house feel really accentuates the bass, and also keeps it from getting to repetitive or annoying.
Jantsen – Take Me There
Taking things in more of a melodic direction, Jantsen’s new tune “Take Me There” is a MASSIVE song that would sound AMAZING on a huge festival system. The songwriting is simplistic and uplifting, but at the same time the producer has layered and mixed all the elements in a way that has created one cohesive and wide song. The chopped up vocals are no exception, they fit perfectly with all the other sounds and are a lot less in your face and obnoxious than in some other songs.
Maztek – Stompin’ [Mob Tactics Remix]
Perhaps the most hard hitting song on today’s playlist is a remix by Mob Tactics. This DnB duo has been killing the game recently, and this release on EatBrain is no exception. Bouncing back and forth between deep sub bass and gnarly neuro filler, the tune is an intense and high energy banger. The creepy atmospheres and brass in the buildups amplify the intensity of the drop, making it feel like it slaps you in the face with very little warning.
Black Tiger Sex Machine – Welcome To Our Church
Last but far from least is this insane Black Tiger Sex Machine remix pack featuring an massive amount of artists – ensuring there is something for everybody. KannibalenRecords has been one of the fastest rising bass labels in 2016 without a doubt. It’s not like the label or Black Tiger Sex Machine needed to prove themselves anymore, but they’ve seriously outdone themselves here. From dark dubstep that’ll shake your foundation to super catchy bass, Welcome To Our Church has it all.
