This weeks Powerful Picks can be expected to bring you through bass house, dubstep, and a more chill remix to name a few. As always, you can find huge bass lines and grimy drops. Kick back, crank the speakers, and get ready for our hand-crafted selections; this is Powerful Picks.
RL Grime – Core (Hearts Remix)
Hearts has been showing us that he can produce genres and styles all over the board. His latest remix of “Core” from the legendary RL Grime helps showcase his talent in this one track. While starting off bass house and making a huge drop that will get you moving, his second drop will get you trying to break your neck to the faster switch up. You can expect a massive dubstep drop with amazing sound design and heavy bass on this unique hit.
The Chainsmokers – Closer (Crankdat Remix)
After recently releasing a huge hit remix to “1 Night” and introducing us to his new sound, Crankdat is back to show us that his chiller side of things is here to stay. While listening to remix after remix of “Closer”, Crankdat’s is definitely one of the top tracks out there. With chopped and pitched vocals, great synth work, and and overall uplifting sound, you’ll have this tune stuck in your head shortly.
Luzcid, Dorfex Bros, Fluke – What You See (Ft. Born I Music)
Luzcid has been making waves in the bass music scene the past couple year or so, and the 2nd single from his upcoming Levitate EP is a perfect example of why. Like all Luzcid tracks “What You See” is a journey that covers a variety of sounds in a short span of time; the melodic intro fits nicely with the atherial buildup, which flows flawlessly into a grimy minimalist drop that is reminiscent of the style Luzcid is quickly developing, while also sounding completely new. Born I Music’s vocals are as introspective as always and are exactly what the track needed to remain interesting over the entire four and a half minutes.
Blacktip – Ironfist
“Ironfist” is a hilarious and grimy bass house track that draws inspiration from the cheesy RZA directed film “Man With The Iron Fists”. While the samples are subtle and spaced out they still provide nice contrast to the murky bassline and drum groove. Hopefully more bass house producers start drawing influence from minimalist UK style songs like this, giving Jauz’s style a bit more room to breath.
Dirt Monkey Ft. Harvey J – Super Saiyan (Wooli Remix)
“Super Saiyan”, off of Dirt Monkey’s new album Chroma, was already a super dope hip-hop inspired track, but Wooli’s future bass remix elevates the song to a whole new level. Wooli keeps all the best parts of the original in tact, such as the stuttering vocals over the drop, and of course Harvey J’s killer flows, but also gives the track a whole new, more uplifting feel. Besides the typically supersaws used in future bass Wooli also throws in some nice wubs as filler between phrases, giving your ears a much needed break with some contrast.
Kronic – The Storm (feat. Israel Bell & Patty Crash)
There needs to more music with a cinematic feel, luckily Kronic has dropped one entitled “The Storm (feat. Israel Bell & Patty Crash).” A tune that keeps the energetic vibe going even though summer has ended. Kronic is also making mad moves in LA right now, working with a handful of huge pop stars including Justin Bieber, and Lady Gaga, Lil Jon. This dude has the connects and sound to blast off.
Kaptain – People In Motion (feat. Carly Jaquier)
This wouldn’t be the first time Kaptain has been featured on Powerful Picks. Kaptain is glitch-hop at it’s core, but has certainly taken on more of a jam band vibe with the latest “People In Motion People In Motion (feat. Carly Jaquier)”. The tune is squared away with a drop that goes far into the trippy nether regions. If you like heady festivals and good vibes, you’ll dig what Kaptain is serving here.
Kent Jones – Don’t Mind /Stint Remix
What the fuck did I just hear? Damn Stint has surely entered the tier as one of my top favorite remixers of the year. I couldn’t put this future bass track in our weekly chill playlist, Unwind The Mind, because this drop goes off – totally epic and a blast. STINT has also worked with Nao, Gallant, and AlunaGeorge, this guy clearly knows what’s up. “Don’t Mind /Stint Remix” makes you want to listen again and again.
