Another year is almost wrapped up for Powerful Picks, one of RaverRafting’s longest running series. Featuring a blend of bass tunes from big and small artists, this week’s list will rip you a new one.
Slander – Dead (NGHTMRE Remix)
NGHTMRE’s remix brings new life to Slander’s intense guitar driven track by transforming it into a slightly less abrasive tune that is still super heavy. The huge 808’s that are a staple of NGHTMRE’s tracks have been paired with a brand new melody played on a trippy mallet like synth, while other samples and sounds float around it to keep things interesting.
Ray Volpe – Overflow
Once again raising his own bar, Ray Volpe had dropped a majestic fusion of future bass and dubstep. The tune’s heavy drums back a euphoric melody that is played off of by heavy and complex basses. As always, the producer’s song arrangement is impeccable, flawlessly keeping the track interesting with subtle changes and masterful implementation of tension and release.
Tre Sera – Show Me What You’re Made Of (feat. Matthew Grant)
Tre Sera is here to debut his catchy hit single “Show Me What You’re Made Of”. After months of working on the track, this addicting track is finally here to introduce us to this new artist. With smooth vocals from the talented Matthew Grant, you’ll be captivated before you even start singing along. The chopped up vocals in the drop will keep you moving with a pleasing melody that you’ll find stuck in your head for days.
PURGE – Holding On
Back with yet another bass heavy single, PURGE is here to show us that they can’t be stopped. After recently releasing two tracks with Nest HQ / OWSLA, the duo has been taking the scene by storm and this time they’re back with Elysian Records. “Holding On” will take you by surprise when the ambient and soothing vocals take a quick turn, dropping you into a world of dark bass music.
Wild Boyz! & Eliminate – SKURT
Wild Boyz! have been on my radar for a while, they released on Good Enuff Records, several others, and now Play Me Records. Eliminate have teamed up with Wild Boyz! for “SKURT”. A single that is larger than life and goes heavy as hell. If you need some bass to the face, this is your track.
David Liebe Hart & No Funks Given – From The Hart EP
David Liebe Hart is at the center of a new EP from No Funks Given. David has been featured on such shows as Golden Girls, The Daily Show, Jimmy Kimmel and Adult Swim, and now is getting his face in the dance music scene. No Funks Given puts dirty synths and fast paced percussion on the vocal of David, tying into their comedy theme found throughout their music.
Kaptain – Wouldn’t Change A Thing
The rising glitch-hop artist Kaptain has blessed us with another original entitled “Wouldn’t Change A Thing”. Featuring a retro feel with the album art, nice live instrumentals, and of course an electronic glitch feel embedded within. If you are into jam band music, experimental bass music, and everything in-between, you will dig what Kaptain is serving.
12th Planet, Virtual Riot & Twine – Gully Squad
In this MASSIVE collab three of dubstep’s biggest names come together to deliver a tune that, while somewhat generic, is so insane the listener has no choice but to headbang intensely. The song’s main drop subtly evolves over time, introducing distinct sounds from each of the three producer’s styles to play off the incredibly grimy main bass.
Swage – 31 (Feat. Crichy Crich)
Bass house titan Swage is back again with an intense new tune that is sure to throw listeners for a loop. The hype vocals of Crichy Crich play over spooky alien sounds and heavy brass, leading into a breakbeat drop with a complex and heavy bassline that makes it impossible to stay still. The contrast in drum patterns between the breakdown and drops is refreshing to hear from an artist who typically only gives us 4×4 bangers.
Wooli – Lucy In The Sky (Feat. Delaney Kai)
With his newest stab at future bass Wooli proves once again why he has taken the bass music scene by storm in 2016. The captivating vocal melody of Delaney Kai is backed by hypnotizing pads, leading into a pumping drop filled with beautiful supersaw melodies and juicy filler basses.
