Heavy dubstep is the name of the game with this week’s Powerful Picks. We have new half-timed madness from dubstep legends, as well as from promising up and comers, but no matter your preference there will be something you dig here. If you’re ready for some bass to the face, strap in, turn that volume up, and press play on this week’s POWERFUL PICKS!!
Liquid Stranger – Hotbox
The first single from Liquid Stranger’s upcoming “Weird & Wonderful” EP is the epitome of the distinct and untouchable sound that the producer has developed over the last few years. Hard hitting drums mix with screechy bass to create rhythms that make it impossible to stand still, before transitioning into an ill verse from one of the many talented MCs Liquid Stranger keeps in his crew. In typical Stranger fashion, the song continues to evolve over time, slapping the listener with a second drop that is even dirtier than the first.
Architekt – Ready To Blow (Feat. MC Sharpness) [We Bang x Mister Black Remix]
This is the perfect track to get you excited for the recently released “Rogue One”. The powerful drop is preluded by a battle cry verse from MC Sharpness, and blaster sounds from that leave the listener no choice but to get nostalgic. The drop itself is one that always leaves you guessing, assaulting the listener with an ever-changing variety of basses and percussive sounds. As the song continues more and more awesome elements get added, including an intense guitar riff during MC Sharpness’ second verse.
Jumpa – Wasted feat. Ilira
“Wasted feat. Ilira” is one of the more r&b style tracks on the list, this tune keeps it weird but goes hard. The German native is clearly in tune with global trends, especially when it comes to the type of music he is producing. The style with this original is cutting edge and easy to put on repeat.
Graphyt & Ecraze – Take It (Squnto Remix)
Though the “MegaChop” DJ has been making lots of waves in the scene with his intense and rapid firing mashups, his original productions are nothing to laugh at. Squnto’s “Take It” remix is driven by intense choir and string sounds, mixed with a seemingly endless array of complex and sporadic basses that leave the listener no time to breath in a continuous assault.
Crizzly X Prismo – Crunk & Wired
Crizzly & Prismo teamed up to deliver one last track this year, which will find itself as a staple among many trap sets. “Crunk & Wired” will get you moving with its up-beat and heavy hybrid sound. Get ready to feel the bass in this mashup of dubstep, hip-hop, and trap!
At Dawn We Rage – Unresolved
Simple but powerful is the name of the game for At Dawn We Rage’s new track. The short tune is a mashup of euphoric pads and grimy neurobasses, contrasting each other in a way that breeds pure beauty, and a blissful, but dissonant sound.
Bare – Mr. Sinister
Bare is back on his heavy dubstep tip, and my god is it glorious. With “Mr. Sinister” the veteran producer creates a whole world, complete with immersive atmospheres, and contrasting sounds that each carry an image for the mind’s eye. Unsettling melodies build tension, teasing the fast paced dropped that soon comes to lay siege to all the land with its laser basses and seemingly endless intensity.
KTRL – Guess Who (A Boy & A Girl Remix)
In their remix of “Guess Who” A Boy & A Girl show of their skills by combining future bass style synths and vocal samples with an intense and rapid firing dubstep drop. The metallic basses that take center stage during the drop move the listener in ways that can only be achieved with off-kilter rhythms, which are amplified perfectly by the variety of vocal samples that are layered on top.
Kannibalen & Friends – All I Want For Christmas Is Bass
Ending things on a festive note, Kannibalen Records, who became one of the leading tastemakers in bass music this year, has put together a compilation of heavy hitters entitled All I Want For Christmas Is Bass. Some are past releases, some are new, but the flow of these last 5 release is not to be missed if you are a bass fan. See you next year Kannibalen!
