Zeds Dead – Woman Wine
Zeds Dead returns to their roots a little bit with their newest dubstep track, which is a part of the recent Deadbeats Volume 1 Compilation. The track focuses on a handful of grimy basses filled with out of this world wobbles. People with short attention spans don’t have to worry, though the basslines generally consist of one sound at a time, the duo switches things up often, continuing their trend of always surprising listeners, new and old alike.
Terravita & Bare – The Krok
In their latest collab with dubstep veteran Bare, Terravita creates a sonic painting depicting the fearful experience of becoming victim to a crocodile attack. Just like the create they are based off, all the song’s basses are absolutely monstrous. The best thing about the track is the small details that really bring the idea to life, such as the live nature recordings, and the pulsating beep in the bridge that replicates the pounding of our own hearts.
sumthin sumthin – Bloom
This massive track redefines the possibilities of trap by creating a series of heavy drops that are incredibly immersive and in your face, while somehow maintaining this feeling of distanced with its lead synths and percussive sounds. The song’s beautiful intro chords are revisited again in the third drop, which changes things up from heavy trap to a future bass vibe.
Robotaki – Automaton
Robotaki suprised us with his heavier-angled single “Automaton” released on none other that Monstercat. The single sounds much more robotic (pun intended) this his poppier, chiller previous release, showcasing a strong balance of techno elements, bass elements, and splash of his signature sound. “Automaton” is Robotaki’s Monstercat debut and it’s safe to say he fits in well with the family.
Yheti & Toadface – Serious
On the first track from their new “Brain Mirror EP”, Yheti & Toadface prove just why these two Wakaan weirdos work so well together. An ominous intro leads into a subtle, but immersive drop that continues to expand and evolve over time. As weirder and weirder elements get added the song still manages to stay maintain its sense of theme theme, creating a psychedelic piece of art that any bass head can enjoy.
DEEZ & Smigonaut – Moonlight Excursions
A melding of DEEZ’s futuristic sound design with the melodic magic of Smigonaut was not something that the bass music world knew it needed, but damn will they love it. With its chilling yet simple melody this tune instantly creates a wonderland atmosphere, which is soon joined by trippy yet powerful bass. As the song continues it develops, taking that same bassline and playing with it in ways that the listener could never anticipate. Finally the tune comes full circle with it’s outro, fading away, leaving the listener in awe of the magic they just experienced.
Benasis – Destruction
“Destruction” is a perfect example of why riddim has blown up so much recently. While the buildup and synths might be somewhat simple, the groove and variety in sound design makes it near impossible to stand still when listening to this slammer. All the filler effects and sound samples help keep the songs energy alive, keeping the listener on their toes for the whole song.
