After a long holiday hiatus, the Powerful Picks series begins in 2014. The anticipation of the new, innovative sounds that will make history has us chomping at the bit for new music. This week’s list starts off futuristic and ends up melodic.
I’m beginning to hear seriously insane innovations between bass music and deep house – truly amazing stuff and a great time to be alive in music history.
Royal – Passenger
Right off the bat, “Passenger’s” electro-acapella intro is an immediate attention-catcher. The four chord pattern Royal inserts soon leads into a dreamy-bass filled trap section that blows the mind of all who listen.
loosid – c h a o s
I’m not too into tech house, which was my initial impression of looosid’s latest. A few moments later I sense a sick bass vibe creeping up in the track. A drop ensues, with bass from floor to ceiling and even a few momentary trap-like teases – genre innovation at it’s finest.
Jack Ü – Take Ü There (feat. Kiesza) [Netsky Remix]
DnB fans beware! Netsky has transformed the massive hit “Take Ü There” intro a tornado of power and might that’s not for the faint of heart.
Gazzo & Dani Deahl Feat. Crywolf – Control Myself (Original Mix)
Showing a bit more of their dark sides Gazzo, Dani Deahl, and Crywolf team up to create a track with various house elements. Progressive, electro and a little bit of deep house all make their way into the mega collaboration.
DJ Swoon – Future EP
The highly creative solo artist, DJ Swoon, dished out an entire album via High Intensity Records, even premiering a few tracks on various blogs/SoundCloud channels beforehand. The album is just as it says, “Future,” each track has it’s own unique style and angle ensuring there is never a dull moment.
Cloudhead Records – Cloudheaded Vol. 1
As we teased last year, Fox Stevenson’s label “Cloudhead Records” has dished a handful of originals that truly show off the style of the label. From melancholy tunes to full-blown bangers, “Cloudheaded Volume 1” is a compilation to be cherished all year long.
