Relive the legendary two-night occupancy of Red Rocks Amphitheater on August 16-17 with the official recap video from Pretty Lights, featuring a new song, “Give Your Love Away”. The video showcases the beauty of the classic Morrison, Colorado venue, the incredible energy of the fan base in attendance, and the work that went on to put the two-nights in the history books.
With cuts from preparation of the stage, to Greg “Lazershark” Ellis working his lighting design magic, to the crowd, to the actual show, the entire video pays homage to Derek Vincent Smith and the work he put in to making this event one to remember. The two nights in Red Rocks were the debut of the Pretty Lights live band- an ensemble who played renditions of Pretty Lights’ originals, all using real-time instrumentation. The band consisted of Adam Deitch (Break Science), keyboardist Brian Coogan (New Orleans All-Star), keyboardist Borahm Lee (Break Science), Scott Flynn (John Brown’s Body) on trombone and Eric Bloom (Lettuce) on trumpet. Deitch and Coogan both played extensively on Pretty Lights’ latest album, A Color Map of the Sun, released in July.
The video also contains a new Pretty Lights track, “Give Your Love Away”. It’s an emotional roller-coaster, featuring a repeated, uplifting soulful sample of “storm’s gonna pass, it’s gonna pass.” The song is filled with heavy beats, an amalgamation of differently pitched and textured synths, and leads to an emphatic drop culminating in a ton of energy and filled with scratchy, futuristic synth and heavy-bass.
Pretty Lights will begin his Analog Future fall tour on Thursday, October 10th in Kansas City, Missouri. Tickets are still on sale!
“My dream has come true. I will be hitting the road for my 2013 fall tour with a FULL, AWESOME LIVE BAND! We will be fusing new, hot production with the live band’s gritty old school hip-hop soul break styles in a way that production and a live band have never been heard together before. The musicians that have come together for this manifestation of Pretty Lights are brilliant and so insanely talented. My world has grown from computers and live production to a full analog sound sculpting, band dubbing, bass playing, looping, synth and sample playing modular command center. It is so much fun. The Pretty Lights show has evolved, drastically. Red Rocks in August was the first live band show and we’ve been rehearsing ever since. Without a doubt, I am more excited than I have ever been to take the PL show on the road.” – Derek Vincent Smith
