With Halloween approaching this weekend Pretty Lights, aka Derek Vincent Smith, just dropped a sweet electro banger titled “Halloween Fun Time REMIXMONSTRous MASHup”. Combining samples from multiple classic Halloween movies, as well as Johann Sebastian Bach’s Fugue 9, this song is White Raver Rafting approved. The mix lasts almost 5 minutes while Pretty Lights throws down on Fugue 9, Nightmare on Elm Street Theme, Halloween Theme, and the iconic laugh from the Tales From The Crypt.
The heavy bass accompanied by the classic Halloween Theme piano rifts makes this track something you could blast at a party or as DVS puts it “at least listen to in the car one night a year.” That is the worst part of the song, it’s themed. This doesn’t mean you can’t play it in the summer, but this is song should probably be kept for the fall. I find myself always listening to Pretty Light’s “Summertime” mashup waiting for the weather to change, but I dont see myself dying for Halloween to come closer on the 4th of July. Regardless, blast this tune while you still can before it gets put deep into your iTunes waiting for next October.
Pretty Lights has always been pushing the envelope with his style. He describes it as “”glitchy hip-hop beats, buzzing synth lines, and vintage funk and soul samples.” His individual songs have so many different components which all tie together to bring you music you can chill to or rage to.Pretty Lights has you covered. His remixes and mashups follow this style to provide the genre with style that is unseen anywhere else. If you haven’t downloaded his “Unreleased 2010 Remixes” off his website, add it to the top of your To-Do(wnload) list. Best of all? It’s all free. Remember, donations are accepted to help keep the cost free, so if you’re a long time fan throwing down a few bucks would help the future fans.
Although there has only been one offical remix album, Pretty Lights has released many more since 2010 but labels them as singles. Highlights include his Run-DMC remix of It’s Tricky, Pretty Lights vs. Led Zeppelin, which uses multiple samples from one of the greatest bands of all time, and a remix of John Denver’s Country Roads.
With the release of the first single from his up and coming album “So Bright” a few weeks ago, and now a Halloween mashup, Pretty Lights is about to retake his throne. We can’t wait to find out more about his very mysterious upcoming album but be sure to check back on White Raver Rafting to stay up to date on all things Pretty Lights and EDM.
