Yesterday Pretty Lights announced the upcoming release of “The Hidden Shades,” two 10″ records containing a total of eight unreleased tracks. In honor of Record Store Day, the album is set to release April 19.
Sides A and B will feature four new tracks produced alongside his latest album, “A Color Map of the Sun,” while sides C and D will contain remixes of the tracks. For the remixes, Pretty Lights said on his website he teamed up with some of his favorite producers, including Emancipator, ODESZA, Blue Sky Black Death and Love & Light.
Two sneak peaks of the album have already been released, tracks “Lost and Found” and its remix by ODESZA. “Lost and Found” has Pretty Lights written all of it, embracing the artful arrangements and soulfulness embodied by ACMOTS. ODESZA’s remix is a tad more melodious, taking the original version and overlapping it with dipping synths before dropping into a groovy overhaul.
Smith also boasts of the vinyl’s artwork, which he describes on his site as “a super fresh part of the release.” Photos featured on the album’s cover were submitted by fans who took part in the PL Instagram challenge, featuring the hashtag #plpix.
Pretty Lights encourages fans to support their local record store by purchasing the album in its entirety April 19, but as always, the tracks can be downloaded for free from the PLM website. See the track list and listen to a preview of the album below.
