A music industry veteran interviewed Pretty Lights for an hour and a half yesterday. The simple generational gap between Steve Rennie (former Incubus manager) and Derek Smith, among other things, quickly became a platform for the best interview to date with the PLM frontman.
Prompted by a caller’s question, DVS made it verbally clear that he would be touring Fall 2013 with a live band, and most surprisingly…..in theaters with seats. (see video at about 28:00).
I feel like I’ve made the decision to take a left turn with this whole edm thing and where I’m at with it. Typically big edm artists, big DJs, they want to stay away from these ornate beautiful theaters that are seated….because they have seats. They want people to be able to go where they want. younger fans especially are adversed to seated venues. I’ve realized those are the best ones because they’re the most intimate.
A lot of the venues on my Fall tour are going to be these Theaters I’ve never been willing to play before because they have seats. I feel like it encourages to have their own space, their own little 3×3 foot area and it promotes paying attention more and really watching what each person on stage is doing. I want…I am making it a show where you have to pay attention.
A Color Map of the Sun Documentary
We wanted to give proper credit for the doc to Krystle Blackburn, Derek’s girlfriend and PLM creative director. Apparently she didn’t get the mention deserved when the video originally went live.
