Derek Vincent Smith‘s latest feature tune, “Lost and Found” is genuinely a hidden treasure from the B-Side of “A Color Map of the Sun“. The sound is true to the Pretty Lights characteristic style of using smooth hip hop beats to lead effortlessly into wailing trumpets that frame his infamous drops so perfectly.
Wistful violins bow the heartstrings as a bluesy voice sings soulful words of the downtrodden. “Living like there’s no tomorrow…” the songster cries, his voice carried upward by a softly rolling timpani. The vocal samples in this track along with the jazzy brass overlay meld with the tone of “A Color Map of the Sun” like a lost relative.
The video below depicts images of quickly moving travel fueled by wanderlust, as if to speak to the audience of his own feelings of being lost and then found again on the road. The title is befitting of that idea and also the way the track finally came into the hands of the fans. First the ODESZA remix oddly appears on the Divergent soundtrack before we knew of the original and then we are finally gifted the release along with the video weeks later. Intrigue makes an interesting lure for fans on this one. I’m anxious to see how the remaining B-Side works unravel.
