The long-running Barcelona music festival series, Primavera Sound, has officially closed out it’s first U.S. edition which took place in Los Angeles this past weekend. Taking place at the LA State Historic Park, Primavera LA was beautifully framed by downtown LA’s iconic skyline mixed with a wonderful lineup of 65 amazing artists spread across 4 stages: Primavera Stage, Tecate Alta Stage, Barcelona Stage, and the Smirnoff Ice Stage. This year’s headliners included Lorde, Nine Inch Nails, and Arctic Monkeys.
Day 1 set the tone for a weekend adventure through the sounds shaping the global sonic landscape. English singer, songwriter, and record producer, PinkPantheress performed an electrifying set at the Tecate Alta stage right before Stereolab performed a perfect golden hour set. Long Beach native, Giveon performed a soulful yet beautiful live performance on the main Primavera stage with hundreds of fans singing along to each song.
Day 2 brought out a strong, diverse group of performers from all around the world like Chilean-American singer Paloma Mami and Norwegian black metal band, Mayhem. Instrumental trio hailing from Houston, Khruanbgin performed an amazing set packed with funk, psychedelic, soul, and hip-hop elements. And to close out the night, the Ireland DJ duo, Bicep played an insane live set on the Tecate Alta stage filled with lasers and plenty of synths.
The final day was blessed by Primavera Label’s Nuria Graham as she welcomed all of the early arriving guests, followed by Puerto Rican duo, Buscabulla. El Paso natives, Cigarettes After Sex performed a dreamy pop live performance on the Tecate Alta Stage. And to close out the whole festival, showing their stardom still remains essential to an entirely new generation of fans, was none other than UK rockers, Arctic Monkeys!
In our eyes, this weekend was definitely a success and a huge stepping stone for Primavera Sound. Music lovers came from far and wide to dance and sing together underneath the beautiful LA skyline, soundtracked by an incredibly diverse lineup. We’re excited to see the growth of Primavera LA and we hope it returns next year!
