Nicky Romero’s Protocol Recordings Celebrates Anniversary With ‘5 Years of Protocol’ EP

Five years ago marked the commencement of one of electronic music’s largest imprints, Protocol Recordings. In late May, Protocol celebrated it’s birthday with a live broadcast of Protocol Radio’s 250th episode. Label head and DJ/producer, Nicky Romero, has set out to continue the celebrations, the latest being in the form of a new EP, ‘5 Years of Protocol’. The EP features fresh renditions of the label’s classic hits from various esteemed Protocol producers.

‘5 Years of Protocol’ EP kicks off with one of the label’s most successful singles to date (if not the most successful), “Like Home”. StadiumX delivers a fresh take on Nicky Romero and NERVO’S original, opening up the EP with a burst of energy and riveting blend of wavy synths. The EP follows with a future bass and trap infused makeover of “Symphonica”. Tony Romera’s combination of layered drum patterns, melodic elements, and peaks of progressive house, results in a flawless revamp of the 2013 hit. Next on the EP, comes from the Protocol mastermind himself, Nicky Romero. Romero delivers his signature electro house sound to the compilation with his rendition of “Howl At The Moon”. He keeps the stellar original’s style in tact with Taylr Renee’s beautiful vocals, but adds his own flare with exciting build ups and intense drops. The next track in the collection is “Sandcastles”. Sam Void took the progressive house track and amplified it with some funk, incorporating throbbing bass and electrifying synth work. Last, but certainly not least, the commemorative EP concludes with John Dahlback’s future house portrayal of “Crossroads”. The lighthearted production takes you through a wave of chill and joyful moments, perfect as the closing track and ideal as the soundtrack for any festival recap video.
