This week, Eric Prydz released the track “Layers” under his Pryda moniker. Designated for more progressive & ambient tracks than he puts out under Eric Prydz or Cirez D, the Pryda project has had one of the most influential and distinctive sounds in all of electronic music. As his 25th release under Pryda Recordings, “Layers” is a simple yet beautiful track that reminds us all of the uplifting, trance-inducing power that EDM has.
The song begins with floating, space-y synths which build tension, then blend perfectly with the deep groove that he brings into the song after the intro. By not building too many differing elements into this track, Pryda shows us here that less is more. In his interview with Rolling Stone, Prydz stated,
“I don’t really make music to release. I make music that I feel is missing from my record box when I’m out DJing.”
“Layers” fits this qualification perfectly, as it feels more like a section of a DJ set than your typical EDM banger – yet the power of this song cannot be denied.
Keep your eye out for many more releases from Prydz/Pryda/Cirez D this year, as Eric has stated that he will be putting out many of the previously unreleased tracks that fans have heard in his sets for a long time and are clamoring to get their hands on.
