It’s been almost six years since Rabbit in the Moon (RITM) was last seen at Ultra Music Festival, but it did not include both members performer/singer Bunny and producer David Christophere, but only Bunny. The impending return of both members is in only 23 days, so in eager anticipation let’s dive into the history of RITM.
Hailing from Tampa, Florida, the original three members included DJ Monk, vocalist Bunny, and producer David Christophere first got together in 1992, releasing one of their fist hit songs in 1993, via Hardkiss Records, “Phases of an Out of Body Experience.”
Reworking original tracks by their peers was an eclectic speciality of RITM as well. Eric Clapton, Orbital, Garbage, & Smashing Pumpkins were just a few of the stars of the late 90s/early 2000s who RITM was inspired to revamp their material onto a whole new dimension of sound and creativity.
When the Rabbit in the Moon Remixes Volume 2 was originally released, the band promised a new album for 2001 summer release, but the album never materialized, and sadly fans began losing hope when DJ Monk left the group in 2002. When “Time Bomb” was released in 2003 and DJ Monk was not included as a producer, it was official that Rabbit in the Moon was now a duo. Over the next few years, RITM toured and in July 2007, Decade was released that not only included a full CD of tracks, but also a companion DVD which included live performances that helped showcase the combined elements of multimedia, theatrical concepts, elaborate costumes and videos that nobody had done before.
in 2008, tragedy hit the group in Seoul, South Korea, when on the 2nd day of the Annual World DJ Festival a glass bottle was thrown from the crowd onto the stage seriously injuring Bunny’s right eye. Fans came together to raise money towards covering Bunny’s medical expenses, but even their dedicated fan base were afraid there was little they good do to help save RITM. Evidence of the duo not being seen together since their 2009 NYE show and Bunny’s solo appearance at Ultra 2010 led us to believe that David Christophere had left the group for good. According to Bunny’s website it states:
After several personnel changes and a move from Florida to California, RITM was put on hiatus which allowed Bunny to pursue his solo career in a more diverse musical landscape. He continued to bolster his reputation as a world class DJ- producer and as one of the very best front men working in music. His shows range from simple one man DJ sets to the full “Bunny” shows with dancers, his array of characters and visual designs and multimedia, scales easily from clubs to the largest festivals main stages like Ultra, Nocturnal, Beyond Wonderland and of course Electric Daisy Carnival. Bunny’s focus is on the live experience and his performances have little to do with merely pressing “play”. Ask anyone who has seen him, it is a show no one forgets.
Therefore it’s been over six years since Bunny and David Christophere have played together, and with all of this talent, this live reunion is not one to be missed. As Ultra is not just music, but an engrossing experience, RITM’s standard and influence that they have set in the industry is undeniable, so let us thank and celebrate this huge moment as we eagerly await of what RITM will bring to the fans and music in 2016 and beyond.
