The Remix Artist Collective, aka RAC, has treated fans to two remixes this week of ODESZA’s “Say My Name” and Grizfolk’s “Hymnals.” Don’t let the “Collective” in the name confuse you, RAC is the solo project of André Allen Anjos who works out of Portland, Oregon. Established in 2007 RAC has created an impressive collection of 200+ remixes including artists like U2, Lady Ga Ga, and Bob Marley to name just a few. Apparently he has been busy since his last release five months ago because this week we have been given two remixes to play on repeat or our speakers break.
The first tune that Anjos lent his mind to was “Say My Name” off ODESZA’s latest album In Return. The original has already experienced a ton of success, racking up over 1 million plays in the two weeks it’s been on SoundCloud. He begins by soloing the gorgeous vocals supplied by Zyra and then brings some equally beautiful guitar to compliment it. He really lets the vocals shine through by using a simple and clean percussive background throughout. He’s supplied just the right amount of “remix” to this remix.
For the second track that Anjos has applied his remixing skills is “Hymnals” by Grizfolk, an indie rock band that just released their first EP The Struggle in August. RAC doesn’t let the original get lost when he brings his own guitar and percussion to back up the lyrics. In this track you can really get a sense for his vision of “taking the focus away from the danceability” but still maintaining the electronic elements with subtle tones in the background and infectious rhythmic percussion. Again he impresses by instilling the perfect amount of himself but still letting the original come through.
