The alternative and electric pioneers Evan Mast and Mike Stroud, aka RATATAT, will be blessing the world with their fifth album, Magnifique, on July 17. That night they’ll kick off an enormous tour with an album release show at Webster Hall in New York City.
Starting as an alternative rock duo in 2004, RATATAT’s unique sound immediately grabbed the ears of rock and electronic fans alike. Though they weren’t the first to do it, RATATAT changed the game with their spectacular fusion of the “4 on the floor” beat of rock and roll and the delicious future sounds of synthesizers. In 2015 dozens of acts participate in this legacy of sound, from jamtronic bands to electro soul producers. Before any of them, however, there was RATATAT – wailing away on guitars and synthesizers to produce colorful, avant garde soundscapes which span a vast range of emotion. RATATAT has music to move your feet and your mind, and though they’re no EDM group, their legacy in electronic music is solidified, and it seems they’ll come back with a thing or two or twenty to show us about synth lines.
They’ve played Governor’s Ball and Coachella already this year, releasing the single “Cream on Chrome” hours before their Coachella set. The 20-stop tour will allow RATATAT to showcase their unique brand of music on their own terms in all its beauty and weirdness. Find tour dates and tickets here, but don’t sleep on the album release party with pre-sale tickets going on sale today, along with general sale on 6/12.
