If you haven’t heard “Bam Bam” get it playing before starting this article – the term: “Lion Sound,” will be immediately make more sense after hearing this tune.
Essentially, “Lion Sound” is the signature style Rawtek has developed and shared with the world. Regardless if your listening to a Rawtek single or mix (which only greatens the experience) the journey encompasses a distinct musical vibe you can’t find anywhere else. The tribal/Arabic/jungle/tropical concoction the duo present is one-of-a-kind, but blending it with cutting-edge electro-house and big-room sounds can turn the experience into a spiritual revelation, given the right setting.
So how did Rawtek go from virtually unknown to an innovative electronic duo in a few short years? It started with a solid musical foundation.
“One of our Dads is a guitarist and the other is a reggae/Dance Hall DJ from Venice Beach so we grew up around music in both of our families. Later on we both started DJing and eventually taught ourselves how to produce.” – Levi
“The hardest part is finishing a song. We’ve gotten a ton of songs finished all the way to the end and then either don’t end up liking it at all anymore or have so many other new ideas that they don’t get finalized and put out. Haha it really all falls under the saying, “you’re your worst critic.” It’s definitely way easier to start a project then to finish one.” -Daniel
Putting in the hours payed off when Rawtek started finding their angle, some of their biggest influences that helped solidify Rawtek include Major Lazer, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Gesaffelstein, GTA, Wiwek, and more.
But Rawtek wasn’t focused on the music solely, they wanted to build new worlds around their sound. Both Levi and Daniel found the musical culture of Native Americans, Shamans, and African Tribes intriguing, finding ways to include elements of these cultures into their own.
“All the tribal/ jungle coming up is insane. It’s going to be big.” – Levi
So naturally, I reached out to Rawtek who was happy to provide an exclusive mix just for WhiteRaverRafting.com. As expected, the mix will rip you a new one, showing off their “Lion Sound” in a bold, outspoken way while including all the awesomeness mentioned in this article.
