If you were in attendance at REZZ’s Saturday night Echostage affair, you’re probably still trying to unscramble your brain. If you weren’t, we’re here to fill you in on what went down, and why you should probably grab tickets to her Mass Manipulation tour. While REZZ has been performing on festival stages and clubs for the past couple of years, this fall marks the first time the 22-year-old alien queen has embarked on a world tour of her own, giving her full creative reign and enabling her to further develop her hypnotic alter-ego.
The night opened up with the jazz-influenced beats of fellow Canadian producer HAYWYRE– an artist whose uptempo, dance-floor-ready tracks pumped energy into the quickly filling up venue. Echostage, voted the number 1 club in American by DJ Magazine, is 30,000 sq. feet of club space; every inch of which was packed by the end of Haywyre’s hour-long set. Despite its status as a top of the line nightclub, Echostage oozes industrialized warehouse vibes and features top of the line sound-systems and screens wrapping around the dance floor, providing the quintessential environment for an evening of hypnotism with REZZ. Taking the stage just after midnight, REZZ arrived dressed in her signature all-black ensemble and donning her not-so-secret weapon: swirling LED goggles that draw audiences deep into the depths of her sinister sets. REZZ wasted approximately zero time before beginning to disassemble the minds of everyone in attendance, relentlessly dropping tracks from her recently debuted album in addition to unreleased remixes like a flip of Rage Against The Machine’s nu-metal track, “Killing In The Name Of.” It was a set that had the crowd absolutely entranced, moving and moshing for close to two hours – a task that is easier said than done when the club holds 5,000 people. Tracks like “Premonition,” “DRUGS!” and closing song “Relax,” were brought to a new level of spookiness with the addition of swirling, psychedelic visuals, and lasers that cut through the crowd and bounced off the cement walls of the club. Bass-house connoisseur DREZO kept the party going until the wee hours of the morning, shuffling things up with his underground style of house music before bidding the club farewell just before 4 am.
For those who have fallen into full-on hypnosis and need another dose of REZZ, have no fear – our beloved Space Mom will be circling around the US and Canada for the next two months before embarking for the euro-trip half of her tour in early December. Check out the remaining dates below, purchase tickets here, and make sure you buckle your seatbelt. If the madness that took place at Echostage is any hint of what’s to come on future tour stops, it’s going to be a wild ride
