Blending together genres like punk, metal, and bass, RIP Kenny has made his own lane within the music industry – which is a great thing. His June 2022 release “i’m ok alone,” embodies this merging of influences in a seamless and orderly fashion. Hard hitting synths and thick 808’s glide along a 140BPM frame work to deliver head-banging, emo-tinged goodness not for the faint of heart.
Just like recently released singles “Letting Go, “Lost,” and “Thought I Knew You,” all roads are leading to his debut album he’s titling Escapism.
RIP Kenny clearly isn’t afraid of challenge, the sounds he crafts not all generic or easy to whip up from sample packs or something of that nature. He’s willing to put in the extra time to extract a sound he feels best fits him. Hailing from Bend, Oregon and often spending time in the studio surrounded by mountains, he seems able to put himself in a creative space and do something he’s great at: make music.
Here what he had to share in regards to this release:
“To me, ‘i’m ok alone’ had always felt like the turning point in the album’s story — there’s this mood shift, a sense of space and adventure, so I knew I wanted to go a bit deeper with the story lyrically. The 3 acts it chronicles flow through this journey of becoming your true self, releasing the binds to a past life you can’t get back. Finding a new home in the mountains, reckoning with the fact you’re alone (with increasingly begrudging acceptance through each verse), culminating with one final face-off against your demons where your new home (potentially) comes alive to save you — creating this cathartic moment as you finally realize you escaped, escaped your past, escaped your fear, escaped all these chains of torment that bound you and held you from becoming your destiny.”
