Last seen at the Circle Club, the vinyl maestro RJD2 will be returning to NYC for back to back shows on Jan. 13th and 14th at the Brooklyn Bowl. If you’re not familiar with RJD2 (stage name Ramble John Krohn) he’s a producer/DJ based in Philly who has been blending hip-hop with electronic since the early 90s.
Over the last 21 years the prolific RJ has carved out space for himself with 11 solo hip-hop-tronica albums via an expert ear for sampling. With his MPC and extensive collection of vinyls he has amassed a discography of classics that have stood the test of time. Deadringer (2002) still bumps like More Is Than Isn’t (2013) and everything in between has that “classic” hip-hop style that will never die.
On top of his unique style and tunes, RJD2 brings (literally) another aspect of to his live performance: vinyls. He brings crates of vinyl records on stage with him and plays music by cuing up the exact spot on the record that he wants. I can’t imagine how much time and knowledge goes into mastering this art of old school DJing and accomplishing it flawlessly live. To see that skill in person is enough of a reason to see this show without even mentioning that it’s in a re-purposed bowling alley. Check it out along with some video and upcoming tour dates below.
