The duo out of Colorado Robotic Pirate Monkey dropped a new tune today, entitled “Bandit”. The song is a glitch-hop banger that starts very slow and mellow but takes the listener on a trip when it hits the halfway mark. It opens with a bit of an acoustic, reggae-esque island feel, building a lot of emotion into the sound. The track begins and casually builds with some playful synth melodies, a soft, faded beat and relaxing guitar playing by Kevin Donahue of another Colorado group, SunSquabi. Eventually it reaches the tipping point, and erupts with a bursting of glitchy wobbles and high-pitched synths. This is another stellar track from RPM and is sure to be hit a live with it’s massive drop and groovy hip-hop rhythm.
An interesting point to make with this release is that it’s entirely original production by RPM- this is a different turn for the group, who has received attention for their unique sample-heavy sound. However, they are beginning to fall in step with a lot of other producers within this sub-genre by going with their own creations for songs. “Bandit” is a powerful testament to RPM’s ability as producers to use entirely fresh and authentic content to create a one-of-a-kind track.
