Robotic Pirate Monkey has been making noise in the Colorado music scene for quite some time now, defining themselves with a glitch-hop sound infused with vocal sampling and upbeat percussion. The trio, consisting of Matt Berryhill, Matt Flesher, and Andrew Hathaway, have solidified their place in current electronic music, having toured nationally and shared the stage with the likes of Big Gigantic, Gramatik, Krewella, and more.
Today marks the release of “Re:Heated”, a 15-track remix album of tracks off their EP “heat.wav”. The original EP was filled with glitchy, hip-hop inspired tracks that pulled from elements of funk, dubstep, and more. With “Re:Heated”, we are graced with remixes of those tracks that include bass-heavy overhauls, crisp trap reworks, funky electro-soul versions and more.
Some of the names featured on the remix album include Late Night Radio, Samples, Muzzy, M!NT, amongst many others. After listening a few times through, I have found myself not only a bigger fan of RPM but now enveloped in some of these more-unknown artists that have remixed their tracks. The different variations all are unique, but with being rooted in RPM’s own style, I can listen to all of them without being a huge fan of trap, etc. These remixers carefully kept the original tracks very in-tact, and one must respect that.
The album in itself is a great listen for fans of the emerging glitch-hop scene, with RPM clearly at the forefront. Fans of artists such as Pretty Lights, GRiZ, and Gramatik will surely find an affection towards the “Heat.wav” remixes and RPM’s original tracks as well. Check them out via their website or facebook.
