Known for his melodic, flourishing takes on deep house and techno, French producer Rodriguez Jr. has returned to Mobilee Records with the release of a stunning two-track EP, Malecón Azul.
Translated as ‘blue boardwalk,’ the EP’s title drips with the energy of summertime, a mood that is directly translated to its two shimmering tracks; ‘Malecon Azul’ and ‘Cluster.’
In ‘Malecon Azul,’ a strong modular beat is matched with waves of airy synth-chords and tight hi-hats to create a track that progresses fervently from ‘minimalistic’ to a dark, intimate dive into Rodriguez Jr.’s complex brand of dance music. It’s a track that manages to explore relaxed, sublime soundscapes while still bringing an air of sultry heat; a paradox that Rodriguez Jr. has proven to have mastered throughout his live sets and catalog of releases.
In ‘Cluster #1’ a tight, hi-hat based beat carries the track against soft echoes of sound before the track takes a moodier turn with help from resounding, alternating layers of low-end sounds.
