Today WRR features the music video of the deep, 90s-esque house track “My Roots” by house-music legend Roger Sanchez. Aptly named, the song culminates with the “roots” of Sanchez’s Dominican background being intertwined with New York house, all layered together by way of smooth, pristine production. Deep, thudding basslines underscore a Latino flair, with a complex array of samples and tones. Add all this to a firm and organic beat, and you have a track that is ready to move entire dancefloors effortlessly.
The ‘My Roots’ music video was created by a 21 year-old film student, who uses a combination of animation and real-time to create a unique and imaginative video. It features animated fans, speakers and vinyl to give the watcher a sense of the development of Sanchez’s life as a producer and DJ, while including multiple scenes of iconic New York scenery, since Sanchez grew in Queens, New York. The video uses the theme of symmetry quite a lot as well, and pops with color constantly, drawing you in to the liveliness of “My Roots”.
