There was a time, not too long ago, that the world believed turtles and cats were one in the same. In late 2013, a shy turtle poked its head out of its shell into the world of Soundcloud with a toe-tapping remix of the Keith Sweat song “Get Up On It”, and heads began to turn. That SOUND. That bouncy, sensual sound was so familiar, yet so entralling. The Jersey Club sound exuding from the track led many to believe that our favorite seductive producer Cashmere Cat had hit the world with a new moniker and a newer sound. Little did they know that we had instead been blessed with a new mind, with a new sound that was ready to take dance music where it wanted to be.
When Austin’s SXSW came around in March 2014, Trippy Turtle completely busted out of that shell, hitting the stage back-to-back with Cashmere Cat in a historic set. From that moment on there was no denying that Trippy was his own man, ready to burrow into your ears and stay there for the long haul.
He continued to entrance listeners with a parade of cold-blooded remixes of some of the world’s most famous R&B and Pop artists including Justin Timberlake and Chris Brown. And how could you not get down to his masterful spin on Bel Biv Devoe’s “Poison”?
Shortly before playing in front of thousands during his set at Electric Forest, Trippy dropped his original track “Trippy’s Theme” on Diplo’s Mad Decent label. Never has a song so truly represented the style and soul of an artist! The smooth vocal hook mixed with the faint sound of bouncing bed-springs makes the mind slip into a place that can only be described as R-Rated. With 4 sets at Rowdytown the Red Rocks crowd may need a cold shower after Trippy is through with them!
