Hailing from Lawrence, Kansas, these two bring the funk in a unique, live style they can safely call their own. You’d be hard pressed to handpick a better venue than this one to experience them in, as beautiful Red Rocks Amphitheater is widely considered one of the premiere outdoor concert venues in the country. From top to bottom this lineup is geared towards only the grooviest of electronic acts; the ones where you can get down and act like it’s 1970 all over again with your best friends. With no further adieu, I present to you The Floozies.
Comprised of brothers Matt and Mark Hill, The Floozies have a cohesive, effortless sound that you’d expect from two brothers jamming out their whole lives together. With Matt manning the production/guitar side of things and Mark giving the drums all they can handle, these two go against the grain when it comes to electronic music today. When you step into a Floozies set you can be sure to hear fantastically funky live instruments, improvised beat looping, and clean production. This lies in stark contrast with the cookie-cutter track format plaguing the scene today, and they couldn’t care less.
Being one of the crowned jewels of GRiZ’s Liberated Music label is no easy task. Since the label’s inception however, this is exactly what the Hill’s have proven to be. Released last November, their album Tell Your Mother put Matt and Mark on the national funk radar. Standout track “Love, Sex, and Fancy Things” has amassed over 200k plays on SoundCloud; an impressive number for any artist out there.
If you’re new to The Floozies and are unfamiliar with their music, I recommend beginning here on your musical journey. Throughout the album you can feel the soulful vibes from the very beginning and get a great sense of what the Hill’s are all about. These two bring the funk in ways that leave you wondering if you’re still in the year 2014.
Just because they make some of the grooviest beats out there today does not mean that they’re a one trick pony when it comes to producing. Step foot into a set and you’ll be amazed at how hard hitting their beats can be. With elements of glitch-hop, trap, and even dubstep, you won’t quite understand their sound until you witness it firsthand.
By now you’ve probably heard enough to get an bearing of how silky smooth their music can be. Now take a listen below to all sides of The Floozies, certain sides are more mystic and under-appreciated than others.
Fresh off huge festival stops at Electric Forest and The Hudson Project, The Floozies are solidifying themselves at the forefront of all things funky. After attending both festivals I can personally attest that not only were both sets extremely unique and equally as fun, but these guys are not one you want to miss under any circumstances. Now headlining their own Back On It tour, the Hill’s are now among the heavy hitters and it’s about time they’re regarded as such.
