At the age of 27, Christopher Mercer, who is better known as Rusko, has made a a massive name for himself in roughly seven years. Known for his expression, you’ll never be left wondering what Rusko’s thinking. Regardless we all love the English dubstepper and I’m thrilled to learn that he is starting to release his music for free, starting with his ‘Kapow’ EP. Rusko said:
The natural thing for me to do is release KAPOW myself. How I want. The way I want and at the speed I want. It’s about promotion and not profit – I want to give the fans the music in real time. If they can help me promote it too then it’s essentially what a label does anyway but just without copyright restrictions. The fans are key in the success of KAPOW. If you like it, send it to a friend. I just want everyone to be able have my music if they want it. -(via factmag.com)
Rusko’s Spokesman:
He finished his deal [with Mad Decent] and rather than renew it, or find another label, he’s decided to self-release for free to fans with the aim of getting his music out there widely to the max amount of people in the easiest way possible. -(via mixmag.net)
Promotion won’t be a problem for this four track work of art, from ‘Like This’ to ‘Yeah’, ‘Booyakasha’, and ‘Bring It Back’, you’ll have this EP on repeat for weeks to come. Each tune has it’s own distinct feel, ‘Booyakasha’ has heavy wobbles while ‘Bring It Back’ initially provides a more uplifting emotion. ‘Yeah’ features a catchy female vocal and offers a mellow vibe leading into a chilled drop and ‘Like This’ makes me want to pump out moves on the dance floor.
