Sir Rusko is the newest member of Skrillex’s OWSLA family, it’s a move that should solidify his career and could possibly lead to a lot of interesting collaborations in the near future. Could you imagine a Rusko & Dillon Francis track?
While he says that the move was to release his drum and bass track “Alive” that premiered on RollingStone, the timing is sort of curious. Dubstep is falling out with the fans as trap has really emerged as the it thing for the moment. Fans are fickle though and I do think we’ll see dubstep return to its former prominence even though producers like Skream are calling it quits.
Like I said in my editorial last week, even for established artists like Rusko it’s so difficult to remain relevant when music listeners are so fickle with their ever evolving taste. Moving to OWSLA creates that hype (we’re blogging about it now) and sets Rusko up with a better platform for whatever kind of productions he decides to work on.
I don’t think we’ll see a drum and bass comeback for a while, but I could be wrong. I think the next genre that’s being blown up and that we’ll eventually see become exploited is trance music.
