Russian duo VOLAC have been quickly rising through the electronic scene with their impressive originals and top tier collaborations. In the past few months they released a highly acclaimed collaborations with Destructo, “What I Got”. They also did a special guest mix in support of Destructo’s Hard Summer Music Festival that they also performed at. In addition, their track “No Love” was released nearly a month ago and has since launched them on a world tour touching down in locations all across Australia and the United States.
One of their most recent performances comes from Elements Festival in NYC. They performed among artists like Zeds Dead, Michael Calfan, and Griz. On the label side of things they’ve released tracks on both AC Slater’s Night Bass and Tchami’s legendary Confession label. In order to find out more about what the Moscow based producers have been up to, RaverRafting was able to briefly talk with them about their touring experiences, future collaborations, and world tour. Check out the full interview below!
You’re currently on a world tour in support of your recent single “No Love”, how has it been going so far?
VOLAC: We just came back from Australia. There were 7 shows and all of them were lit! We had a lot of fun and ready to rock the USA!
Are there any locations you’re really stoked to be performing at?
VOLAC: We are excited for all our shows, but are most excited for HARD fest and Elements festival in NYC.
In terms of touring, can you compare the electronic scene in Russia to other parts of the world?
VOLAC: Russia is very EDM… and there is music delay for 2-3 years. That’s why we are passionate about the world electronic scene.
Let’s talk about the creation of “No Love”, is there an interesting story behind its formation? Any particular sound you were aiming for?
VOLAC: We found the sound very fast, but couldn’t find the right vocal for a long time.
How has it been releasing music on Tchami’s Confession label and AC Slater’s Night Bass?
VOLAC: For a long time we couldn’t find the right label for our music. Then we found Night Bass and Confession. They are the best labels for us at the moment.
Do your tracks differ in genre or sound depending on which label you’re releasing on?
VOLAC: Yes, fa sho every track is unique.
Are there any artists you look to for influence when producing?
VOLAC: David Guetta is cool.
In terms of collaborations, who would you like to work with?
VOLAC: We have couple artists who we respect and would love to work with in the future. We can’t say much more on that now, but stay tuned!
Have there been any special moments (whether it be on tour or throughout your musical career) that you remember or will always remember?
VOLAC: When we were on our Brazil tour last year, we played in a very big venue. Just after the set, we partied with the owner. Somebody came up to us and asked if he could talk to the owner privately. 10 minutes later we heard 5 gunshots. We immediately ran away and later learned that the owner we were talking to was killed…
