Sage Armstrong and BOT have teamed up once again to deliver a special concoction of tech house beats, futuristic vibes, and a transformative sound that really take us out there with their new collab EP Outer Space. The two artists are always ready to throw down on a project together ever since Armstrong approached BOT about collaborating back in 2016 on their first “She Smokin'” track, on Armstrong’s Dirtybird EP release Quest to the West. They create such an magnetic sound and have been quite the producer pair ever since.
The five-track EP has all of the flavors of Dirtybird off-kilter mix in’s, BOT’s robotic touch, and of course some of Armstrong’s hip-hop influences. “Outer Space” kicks off into the journey, with a heavy smacking rhythm that rightfully propels us into another realm. The title track then gets wrapped with warped voices having a trippy conversation about “color dripping off the walls” and “divine light” before fully enveloping us into dark flows. “Curly Fried” features more of BOT’s future house sounds while Armstrong raps over the beat. We can’t help but feel this is both an ode Armstrong’s locks and quite possibly the famous fries themselves. We love that we get sucked into this one as the producers do into a “curly fried cutie”. Bouncy “Stick Like Glue” and the dark, yet vivacious “So Bublee” nod to the playful and unpredictability that fans have come to love about their style. Finishing off the EP with “Amber Alert,” the duo brings it back to classic four-to-the-floor rhythms, while adding in their robotic voice overs and moody synths.
Both artists are scheduled on the docket for the first edition of Dirtybird Campout East Coast and we’re hoping that these two will collude together on the decks for that special sound only this duo makes. After listening to this EP on plenty of rotations, we’re sure you’ll be itching to catch it live. Snag up tickets for the festival here, with single day tickets now available. Armstrong is also on tour until the end of February, so if Campout isn’t in the cards, you can check out they’re stopping by your city here.
The EP is available on Spotify and Apple Music now.
