Notorious Dutch DJ and producer Sam Feldt has long been established himself in the tropical house scene. After running with the likes of Kygo and Thomas Jack, it’s no wonder this seasoned artist brought his headlining performance to the big apple. Playstation Theater in Times Square was transformed into a tropical paradise equipped fully with palm trees and Hawaiian shirts. With a set up like that there was no doubt in our mind that the motto of the night would be “Let’s Get Tropical”. As Feldt came on to stage around 12:30 the packed NYC crowd filled the venue and produced an explosive New York City greeting for the Dutch native. Accompanying Feldt on stage during his performance were his saxophonist and trumpet player.
Both artists provided the live instruments that helped Feldt’s show come to live in front of hundreds of teeming fans. The two performers exquisitely matched Feldt’s delicious tropical house vibe making for an unparalleled performance at Playstation Theater. We’ve recently seen a wave of producers bringing live instruments into their shows and Feldt went above and beyond in this regard. For nearly every track the powerful saxophone and trumpet added some sweet spice to the performance that can firmly be regarded to as awesome. The saxophone had us reminiscing of a Griz performances while the trumpet added elements from Timmy Trumpet’s performances (albeit not psytrance or funk).
When fans weren’t getting down to the beats you could catch them stacked up around the flat screens adding some Playstation time into their night. However, Feldt proved to deliver a relaxed, yet extremely upbeat performance that left fans craving more as he wrapped up in the early AM. He would of course throw in some of his classics like “Show Me Love” and his remix of Zwette’s “Rush”. If there’s one thing we know for certain from this night it’s that NYC can’t wait to have Feldt back in the future.
