Sandro Silva has just dropped his latest track, “Someone Like U” with European trio Dirtcaps. This track proves that they have what it takes to be some of the top guys in progressive house. With tour stops in major US cities and festivals all around the world, it is no surprise that Sandro Silva is riding to the top.
We recently sat down with the European DJ/producer to talk about his influences, his plans for the future, and his take on American and European EDM.
Congrats on the new song, how did you team up with Dirt Caps for this one?
“Thanks! I followed the guys van Dirtcaps quite a while and loved the unique take they had on EDM and that crossover with trap/urban. That’s why I contacted them and told them we had to make a song together!”
What was it like working with the dudes?
“Loved it, as it was a super good combo. They work really fast and I love that fast pace.”
Are you planning on another tour after your last two dates to Mexico and the Netherlands?
“Yes we have a big Asia tour coming up this month and we are going to play at a big festival this weekend in Valencia, together with Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike.”
Festival Season is coming to a close. Which festival was your favorite to perform at?
“My all time favorite is still Tomorrowland.”
What made it such a magical show?
“The whole atmosphere and people who are united as one. It’s incredible to see that from a dj perspective when you play in front of those people.”
What is the craziest thing you have experienced while on stage during a show?
“I experienced a lot of crazy stuff. This one time a lot of big people joined me in the booth in Vegas, Michael Phelps was one of them and a lot of big pro poker players. Crazy times!”
Obviously you’re a heavy hitter in the EDM community, and you’re on Instagram all the time. Do you agree with the #EDM ban?
“No not at all. I think It’s just sad to ban it, because this whole EDM thing is uniting people more than anything at the moment.”
Do you feel like social media (Instagram, Twitter, FB, Snapchat, Vine) is helping or hurting the scene?
“Helping, because it brings your fans closer to the artist. It creates such a short distance between your favorite dj and the fan.”
What is the biggest difference between American and European EDM culture?
“I think the culture in Europe is more divided in genres within EDM. In the US EDM is still everything together, while here you have Techno fans, hard style fans or deep house fans.”
What are some of the things you love/hate about the scene?
“I love the fact that I can do what I always dreamed to do. On the other hand, a lot of people try to go up with a lot of back talking and doing everything for the money.”
Are you planning on any other collabs this year? *wink wink*
“I have a lot of crazy collabs! The first one is set to release really soon on Smash the House with Thomas Newson.”
Who is your biggest musical inspiration?
“Calvin Harris!”
