Yesterday, we were finally graced with the debut album of the first artist off of The Polish Ambassador’s Jumpsuit Records- the 11-track genre-crossing masterpiece ‘Quest’s End’ by Saqi. This album is filled with a richness of sound and a plethora of emotion. As the title implies, ‘Quest’s End’ somehow compacts the feelings of a journey, or “quest”, into an audio format. It’s tribal atmosphere gives it a very primal feel, whilst connected to the present, if not the future, with clean and modern production. It’s an unforeseen clash of sounds-tribal, funk, hip-hop, and more- melded so effortlessly together that makes Saqi a name to watch out for.
The title track, “Quest’s End” is a melodic excursion, combining chimes and incoherent sampling with funky basslines. “Saturn” features a dark, fast-paced groove, accompanied by the organic acoustic strumming of the Human Experience. Saqi’s collaboration with The Polish Ambassador, “Jarro”, is a smooth, new-age funk tune, combining Saqi’s ability to pull from different musical elements with The Polish Ambassador’s aptness for groovy, silk-laden synths and basslines. This track features some raw saxophone at the end as well. At the end of the album, Saqi remixes “Simple Reflejos” by the South American duo Lulacruza. A perfect fit for a Saqi remix, it’s a downtempo, dramatic song filled with deep sentiment. Saqi adds a nice touch of production, letting the passion of the track expand outward.
