Sasquatch! Music Festival has continued to be one of the most diverse and unique rock/pop festivals across the country for the past 12 years. Returning to The Gorge for its 13th year, Sasquatch has expanded to 2 weekends and completely sold out. To celebrate everything the festival has accomplished, Seattle’s mayor Ed Murray has proclaimed tomorrow, May 23rd, a day in honor of Sasquatch Music Festival.
This is a huge accomplishment not only for the festival and city of Seattle, but for the music industry in general. It’s not everyday that politicians of a city actually take the time to look at the positive economic and social outcome of music festivals in their area. We have to face it, our young community of music-crazed festival-goers have certainly been stereotyped and looked down upon in recent years. Thankfully, truly passionate projects like Sasquatch are still able to show how genuine our love and need for music is.
This could be really monumental in showing off festivals we love and cherish for what they really are. Of course not all festivals are “day-of-honor” worthy, but imagine if all the ones that were had their own day to celebrate everything they’ve done for music. I’m definitely hoping this day has an incredible impact on their city and influences a more accepting community throughout the US.
The first weekend of Sasquatch! will be taking place this Memorial Day weekend, perfect timing for the festival’s honorary day. The second gathering will be held over July 4th weekend with a completely different but equally as amazing lineup. Any ticket holder is lucky to be attending this event.
Second weekend was cancelled!
