Secret Panda Society, a dubstep duo from Baltimore, just released their “Crop Top” EP yesterday via Simplify Recordings. They describe the first song as “boogie nights meets modern bass tones,” and that really hits the nail on the head for this funky and heavy glitch hop track.
Between the two songs (“Hometown Hustle” and “80s In My Mercedes”), S.P.S. have managed to fuse funk and 80’s retrofuturistic synths into contemporary-sounding glitch and dubstep songs. Showing influence from the likes of KOAN Sound & Kill Paris as well as boasting some serious production chops, this release marks a big step for the pandas.
