The “Selfie Stick” Is A Hot Trend For Asian Teens, We Blame The Chainsmokers

An invention dubbed the “selfie stick” is making waves in Asia, and we have a feeling this trend will soon take hold in the states as well. Indonesian entrepreneur Diana Hemas Sari, 21, invented this extendable metal wand so multiple people could take part in a selfie – or should we say, groupie?

One end features a handle, the other a plastic fixture that allows for the clipping in of a smart phone. Sari explained to the Huffington Post that the “selfie stick” eliminates the middleman by allowing a group to take a picture themselves, rather than asking a stranger on the street. In addition to extending up to three feet, the mechanism is also collapsible.

This trend has conveniently emerged on the heels of The Chainsmokers’ dance mega hit “#Selfie,” which debuted at #55 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Since its release, 92,000 copies of “#Selfie” have sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. We don’t often give business advice, but perhaps Alex and Drew of The Chainsmokers should take advantage of this obvious marketing opportunity ;).
