Latin house as a genre is definitely increasing in popularity and Simon Fava & Gregor Salto’s rework of Sergio Mendes’ ‘Magalehna’ will definitely become a dance anthem on a global scale. The original track is renowned for its carnivalesque qualities and this rework will join the vast number of remixed latin hits, as well as become your summer track. With radio/DJ support ranging from Fatboy Slim and Mistajam to Sam Feldt and Fedde le Grand, it’s a record destined for festival glory.
German Simon Fava is known for his music on labels like Superstar Records, Tiger Records, Armada Music and Kontor Records, which included breakthrough single ‘Magalenha’ ft. Sergio Mendes in 2014. Dutch Gregor Salto has been making music that moves from latin fueled dance tunes to house grooves for a while now. This included 2005 hit ‘Can’t Stop Playing’ with Dr. Kucho! which turned into a worldwide hit again ten years later, when he reworked it with Oliver Heldens. In the meantime, he’s been on fire with several mixtapes and club hits like ‘Love Is My Game’, ‘Para Voce’, the Wiwek collab ‘How It Goes’ and the Grammy nominated ‘Echa Pa’lla’ with Pitbull, DJ Buddah, Papayo en Tzvetin Todorov..
Both have joined forces to rework Simon Fava’s track ‘Magalehna’, freshening up the Sergio Mendes classic with solid Gregor Salto production. “From a young age I’ve always been interested in world music. At first I liked Balkan Beats, but then I discovered love for Latin and South American music. In the vinyl collection of a well-known I found Sergio Mendes’ ‘Brasil 66’ and afterwards I listened to all the tracks of this great artist. ‘Magalenha’ is my favorite because of the powerful rhythm and especially of the duet of the girls and the boys. The moment when Sergio Mendes personally gave me the pledge for the rights to re-record his ‘Magalenha’ was indescribable. To bring his world-known tune to my dancefloors is really exciting,” Simon Fava said.
Gregor Salto also said that “as a kid I took some percussion lessons and my teacher introduced me to Sergio Mendes. A world opened to me. I was totally blown away by his album ‘Brasileiro’. Sergio’s music has had a big impact on the latin house scene and it was a huge honor and pleasure to officially rework his track ‘Magalenha’ with the magic vocals of another Brazilian legend: Carlinhos Brown. This brings sunshine and happiness to the dance floor wherever I play.”
