Seven Lions Releases The Esoteric “Serpent Of Old”

“And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time…” (Revelation 20:2-3)  Forget what you know and expect from Seven Lions, and welcome the heavy, dark, and grim lyrics of “Serpent of Old”.

Jeff Montalvo, the master behind Seven Lions, was propelled into the EDM scene when he won the remix contest for Above & Beyond’s “You Got To Go”  The rest is chillstep/melodic dubstep history.  With his Days To Come EP, numerous remixes, and the recent collaboration with Myon & Shane 54  “Strangers”, we have seen a lot of beautiful and amazing things from Seven Lions.  However, with this new song, it is unfamiliar yet exciting new territory.  To explain his new journey, taken from the note of his Facebook post for the amazing cover art by Santiago Caruso:

“I realize it’s a bit controversial and I embrace that. Gathering Darkness is a side project for me. It is where I can bring my metal roots with all the aggressiveness and occult themes into my music. For me music has always been about escapism, whether its floating down a river in a dream on another planet or plunging into the deepest darkest depths of hell, It’s all about the journey.”
