There were two things I was looking for as I began Seven Lions’ ‘Worlds Apart” EP. 1. A fresh twist to the “Days To Come” EP style that Seven Lions brilliantly formulated 2. Songs that were different and experimental, but still maintained the roots that make Seven Lions’ sound distinct and appealing. Seven Lions not only matched my expectations but simultaneously delivered cleverness, bravado, and so much more with “Worlds Apart.” As each song passed, I found myself filled with surprise and satisfaction, so much so I couldn’t help but break down the eminence track-by-track
The soft, yet dramatic sound of “Don’t Leave with Ellie Goulding” is a perfect introduction to the sound of Seven Lions. It slowly puts you at ease and prepares you for the emotional and some-what spiritual journey that takes place in “Worlds Apart.” The vocals of Ellie Goulding almost always mix with electronic music, Seven Lions delivers the combination is a fresh and memorable fashion, making your body and mind fully ready to absorb what’s next.
“Worlds Apart with Kerli” completely satisfied my itch for Seven Lions’ “Days To Come” style. The track features the signature “emotion-driven melodic-Dubstep” sound that gives the track a deeper narrative and meaning. The vocals of Kerli harmonize with “Worlds Apart” on multiple levels, adding even more flavor to the album-titled track. I was now happily locked in to the EP experience until the end.
“Nepenthe” is without a doubt my favorite track on the EP. By blending smooth vibes with raw synths and catchy melodies, you soon find yourself filled with a bad ass feeling matched only by Bassnectar’s “Timestretch” and if you’re a Basshead, your know that’s saying alot. “Nepenthe” stand outs among the “Worlds Apart” tracklist and against any of today’s typical EDM releases.
“Strangers with. Myon, Shane & Tove Lo” is a pop-fueled, radio-friendly track on “Worlds Apart,” mixing Electro-House and Dubstep vibes together with the vocals of Kerli. The track fills you with a lighter, more energetic vibe and easily has the catchiest melodies of any track on the EP
“Keep It Close with Kerli,” acts as the finale for “Worlds Apart.” The track has huge variance in energy levels, gradually changing from gentle to intense over the course of a few minutes. The last few moments the energy is suddenly pulled out from under you and the EP exits just as smooth and simple as it began. ‘Worlds Apart” showcases Seven Lions’ ability to clearly connect his fans with his vision, a vision that original, fascinating, and one-of-a-kind.
