Electronica newcomer described as one of the most promising artists out there, Shadient has released his first EP winter = reality on Mat Zo’s label Mad Zoo. Since the age of 10, Shadient has drawn inspiration from the likes of Jon Hopkins, Aphex Twin and Rezz to perfect his modern techno sound. Porter Robinson has described Shadient’s music as ‘pure, heavy, unclassifiable rhythmic distortion porn’ and explored how Mad Zoo is the best label out there in order to produce this form and style of tracks.
The bass of the first and lead single ‘Lotus’ welcomes you into Shadient’s dark and intense world in which the sound is somewhat a little mature in comparison to other artists in the space of a similar age; his inspiration taken from Jon Hopkins is clearly shown in this track. ‘Secret Fires’ starts off with an industrial sense but quickly moves into a more melodic reverberation which is the sort of sound many are expecting electronica to transition into with ideas taken from the East.
This EP is perfect for Shadient’s debut as with the short samples, he can experiment and showcase all that he, as an artist, can offer. ‘Leidenfrost’ gets sneaky and scary, ideal for an underground venue as it verges on the edge of drum and bass or even trap. ‘The View From Up Here’ signals the end of the EP and is a complete parallel to the opening track as it becomes ethereal and somewhat melancholy.
The winter=reality EP will also be available as an extremely limited cassette for sale via the Mad Zoo online store and at a yet to be revealed event in Los Angeles.
